Cars 2 Review and Fun Giveaway

Share

Last week I had the opportunity preview the new Cars 2 movie.  I really wanted to get this posted last week, but unfortunately, I had been asked not to post my review earlier than today.  So, rev your engines and get ready as your favorite characters from Cars are back with Cars 2 racing into theatres everywhere today!

The storyline was very cute, and the kids seemed to really enjoy it. When star racecar Lightning McQueen and his best friend, tow truck Mater, head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix, Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage!

So here's the good, the bad, and the ugly:

  • The animation was fantastic, and we absolutely loved the scenary of the foreign countries and how they adapted it to the cars.  The colors and scenery were so vibrant.
  • The 3D was done very well.  Not all films are good in 3D but this was, and the kids thought it was really cool to wear the glasses.
  • The kids were absolutely glued to the screen the entire movie.  Not one peep out of them.  It really kept their interest well.
  • We loved the way Mater was outfitted for espionage, including cool rockets and spy gear.
  • As a mom, I did feel that there was an awful lot of guns and shooting.  Some of the older kids might be ok with this, but a younger child might find this scary.
  • Several scenes had subtitles because they weren't speaking English.  If your child is a good reader, they may be able to read them and understand the humor.  However, again for younger kids, they wouldn't be able to read the subtitles or get the humor behind it.
  • Not sure how much I liked the use of the word "idiot" for Mator, but the film did do a good job of explaining how much it hurt his feelings.
  • The kids did seem to get a bit upset when Mator found himself in a very precarious predicament and they thought he was going to die.

All in all, both the kids and the adults really enjoyed the film.  I would highly recommend it if your child is a fan of Lightning McQueen.
